That's the point behind all traps that hold you in place - You can't run away while monsters come at you.

that I understand, but 5 minutes is just overkill. As far as I know, most of the monsters will come up to you voluntarily, so that you'll most likely have killed everything in one minute, making the other 4 minutes just wasted time mashing the arrow keys.

At least it does for holes; I forget whether I've ever used it on spiderwebs.
