Overlords
So a friend of mine and myself got this crazy idea in our heads that we would make a universe, write a story, and tell it with images. This particular arrangement is frequently known as a comic book. We got as far as writing the basic story and coming up with a few characters, and then got lazy(woo, that was a heck of a set-up). Today, I installed a new art program (Corel Painter) and decided to have at it. Y'all get to see the result and then give me your opinions.
As a note, this is currently the first "page" . . . I'll be making more, if there's a positive response to this one, but I probably won't be posting them here - we're hoping to get a host and make weekly episodes. [img:6f2db]http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/6666/overlords1feo8.jpg[/img:6f2db] |

Re: Overlords
Corel Painter is good, I had fun with it on my Drawing Tablet.
Anyways, looks like its off to a good start, I'd like to see where it goes. |

Re: Overlords
Haha. One hundred per cent improvement, thanks much.
Just as a side-question . . . is anyone actually intrigued by this as, say, a series? Does the page make you want to read more, or go back to whatever it is you were doing? |

Re: Overlords
The story is a collaberative effort between myself and a good friend. We've already planned a great deal of it out, though not entirely in detail, and we've settled so far on doing two pages each release, with perhaps two releases a week (at least, we'll try that out and see how it works). We intend to have three to four groups of characters, and alternate between each one every week or so to keep the readers interested. While the story may not be entirely original (very few are), I think we may have found a way to do it that will prevent the readers from thinking "Well, I've seen this ten thousand times before, I think I'll continue on my search for something to spend my time doing." On the other hand, with a comic - particularly one like this, as opposed to, say, the Order of the Stick, the art is as important, if not moreso, than the story itself. Comics are a visual artform that happen to include text, not the other way around, so if the story isn't astounding, hopefully people will still read it for the imagery. Of course, this means that I'll have to do a lot of practice when it comes to sword-fights (gun fights are soooo much easier).
If we get a host, I'll be certain to link y'all to it. Personally, I like the way it turned out, visually - it looks sort of like a combination of pastels and acryllic, without the mess on my clothes and table. Thanks for the comments, everyone; I'll be certain to keep yo all apprised of the situation. Oh, and as an ending note (and it seems as though I say this every thread I create, hehe) - I am not, as my name would suggest, female. |

Re: Overlords
Sorry for the long delay in my response, I had some debating to do . . . (3rd place, woot!)
Heh. That is certainly a compliment; thanks. Now, I suppose I do have to get to work on the comic . . . . |

Re: Overlords
Hint: Use .png or .gif for any picture with much text and/or areas of a single color or a similar color in it.
Use .jpg for "realistic" imagery, which this is not. (that doesn't mean it isn't good, "realistic" would be a photograph or a really good drawing with no text or borders) EDIT: After testing, the previous statment that this isn't "realistic" appears to be false. This is catagorized as "realistic," and should therefore be a .jpg. |

Re: Overlords
I didn't notice any discolouration in this version. :/

Re: Overlords
PNG is the smallest when using non-"realistic" files. JPG is the smallest when using "realistic" files. GIF is usually in the middle, and usually sucks.

Re: Overlords
[b:9d247]This is not at all related to the comic posted earlier[/b:9d247] (I have been working on that one, though).
In art-class, we were required to make a comic. I didn't want to do a lot of dialog on something that was only going to be about two pages long, so I made a two-page sword-fight. I had to shrink the image somewhat to get it to fit comfortably online, so some of the detail and text is a little obscured, but . . . well, tell me what you think. [img:9d247]http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/2402/dsc06616mediumlw7.jpg[/img:9d247] |

Re: Overlords
You've pretty much got it.
As for lightness or whatever, I'm almost certain that that's due to the camera's inability to take a good photo of a piece of art. |
