Ya, with my dwarf I use the above mentioned technique, then if you are going somewhere you know is going to have a ton of db creatures and or fire shogs then wear two rings and a scroll for near immunity or 1 ring and red dsm/dragon skin vest.

Rather than using a red DSM with one ring of fire resist+petri resist, I prefer to use a black DSM with two rings of fire resist. As you get 30% acid resist and 65% more petri resists from the black DSM compared to the petri resist ring, at a cost of only 5% fire resist.
