Default Weapon Enchanting

So, I've been looking over the posts about armor enchantment and what not, when something hit me. What does enchanting a weapondo? Does anyone know?

If I remember right enchanting a weapon makes it so you do magic damage with the weapon.

It adds some magic damage to the WC (+1 I think), I believe it also is supposed to increase either durability or accuracy

It gives +1 magic(spirit) wc, and +1 accuracy.

No durability. *edit* It seems it does now, see Teshuvahs comment below.

It is also harder to enchant weapons than armor. I can get an armor to +6 about as easily as a weapon to +4.

So the spirit wc, is different, and resistable?
I have a +5 elec axe and it seems to do more shock damage then a regular elec, is that related?

The spirit wc is added onto you weapon, in addition to what was already there.

Yes, the extra damage can be resisted if you have spirit resists.

As far the damage messages you get, they are not very... "exact". What I THINK happens is that the game takes all the damage you do, and then gives a message based on the damage type that does the most damage.

So if a weapon did:
10 cut
20 fire
In addition to:
5 spirit (from enchanting)
2 smash (from strength skill)

Then you would get fire based damage messages, unless the monster had fire resists high enough to negate that, then you would likely get cut based messages, unless you had high strength skill which would give you smash messages, unless a monster was immune to everything except spirit, in which case you would STILL get smash messages.

My +5 sword of the elements which has (according to the map editor):
+5 cut
+5 fire
+5 cold
+5 elect
in addition to:
+5 spirit
as well as a strength bonus

Will give me a wide assortment of messages, often depending on the monster I am fighting.

To further confuse things, the amount of damages you do is also slightly randomized as well.

It should be mentioned that a while ago I have heard rumors of a bug where sometimes enchanting will actually change ALL the weapons damage to spirit. I have not come across it myself though.

Ahh, okay thank you.

Edit: I've been hearing that it doesn't incrase durability, but rather lowers it, the same with armor.

This was changed when enchanting was updated.
The old enchanting decreased durability. Todays enchanting gives armor and weapons increased durability.

Doesn't magic damage give different messages than smash damage?

Magic-"<name> staggered you with a tremendous blow."
Magic-"<name> hit you."

Smash-"<name> smashed you with a bone crushing sound."
Smash-"<name> smashed you.
