I guess it would depend on two things: how much of a language you can speak to count as "speaking" it, and what languages count as a "language".
If you think that speaking only one or a few words of the language counts as being able to speak it, then I can speak English, French, Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Latin, and Cantonese. Add Klingon, Pig Latin, 13375p34k, ROT13, Morse Code, Geek Code, Tolkien Dwarvish, and about fifty other "languages" to the list if any form of communication counts as "language". Otherwise, I only speak English and Mandarin, the latter very poorly. Give me a break, I don't live in China anymore. |

Lets see, I speak English fluently, but not the Queen's English...I can't understand a word from those bloody wankers.
Next is BASIC, not longer really fluent there, but I can still speak it. Pascal, again I am passable. I am fluent in C, but only passable in C++. I am very conversant in Assembly. Other then that if I can't really speak any languages, but I can understand just about every single one that originates from Europe and northern Asia if the person repeats themself and talks slowly.

Actually french and english are very similar... cause france was ruled by england for like.. a couple of hundred years <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt="Shocked" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: --> Le francais est une langue tres similaire a l'anglais. see what i mean <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt="Shocked" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: --> [/quote:bf627] Yes the French had some effect on the English language, but so did Latin. And if anything German is the most similar, so many cognates. <!-- s:shock: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_eek.gif" alt="Shocked" title="Shocked" /><!-- s:shock: --> Even after the thousands of years of seperation if you want an easy second language to learn the English go German. Französisch sind so arrogant. But German can be confusing. Benutzt das Gift nur in Not. <!-- s:mrgreen: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_mrgreen.gif" alt="Mr. Green" title="Mr. Green" /><!-- s:mrgreen: --> |
