Trading for Soko gear

Sad but true story. I had a character (Grock) and this character had a ton of Sokoban gear when I first played years ago.. I was unfamiliar with bagging and organization so I was playing around trying to figure out how to put everything in the bags I liked and the bam. Server fail. BWaaaahhh... ah well. :D so sad too bad.

So I was on the other day with a new account and I headed straight to the Sokoban tower to get my soko gear.. completed a pile of levels real quick (i love that and all the little side games by the way) and I wasn't getting the gear.. so after a few days of solving puzzles I got in touch with a wiz and asked about it.. SOKO had been discontinued..

So yeah, trading for that. :)

Also I miss the game. I wish someone would make a flash version or an app sequel or something.

Oh and Hi everyone. I hope this decade has found you well. :)

I don't think you understand what the phrase "the other day means." Anyway, you can now get casino gear from, well, the casino and, if you do, you will find that it's just renamed sokoban gear.

Hey, it's not my problem that you guys don't have a copy of the game that you can run on your local machine. If you did, you could go to the casino right now like a select number can currently do.

You're making me wish Rhialto had released a locally-hosted version of the game so I could play singleplayer. My craving for the game would almost be held in check then.

This is probably one of the best idea's i've heard yet. If the game isn't coming back up i'd love to have a copy to play single player on.

While I don't know too much about the subject, I'm pretty sure releasing copies of the game to individuals makes it open source. There's probably measures that can be taken to prevent revealing the source code but in the end someone will find a way to look at it.

And speaking of Casino items, I hear Casino Island calling me, So when the game comes back up buy my stuffs to fuel my gambling "hobby" that is totally not an addiction in any way.

The simplest way for Rhialto to toss out a locally-hosted version of the game would be to release the server client, which isn't something I see him wanting to do any time soon. Making a standalone singleplayer client would be more complicated and would eventually be cracked, so yeah. Chances are we won't see a singleplayer mode any time soon.

I can wish, though.

I'm not even going to deny that I would immediately set to cracking the code if it were released in a single-player form. I probably wouldn't share the method or even the fact that I had done so if/when I succeeded, but I wouldn't be able to resist the temptation. I like tinkering with things too much.

I'd love to see it still, but I'm doubtful it'd ever happen.

Not by a long mile. Source and binaries are quite different, and it requires a fair bit of work to reconstruct the former from the latter. Though, of course, a certain amount of insight can be gleaned from raw binaries in many cases. (Specifically, Java bytecode has richer metadata than x86 instructions, and there are likely to be a lot of juicy strings in there.)

More importantly, possible to do and legal to do are entirely separate. Windows, for example, is not open source, despite copies being released to individuals. That's because the EULA forbids attempting to reconstruct the source code, copying it for someone else to use, and so on.

There are, of course, lots of measures to take. How do you think commercial game companies have managed to release copies of their games to individuals for so long? Naturally, none of those measures are perfect, but the small Wyvern community is rather unlikely to have enough hackers with the combined skill and lack of ethics to release anything from their work. (Witness Kama, who very likely does have the skill, but is highly unlikely to breach agreements in that way.) So I'd think a moderate level of protection would be more or less enough.

Unfortunately, that would still be a few dozen (hundred?) hours more than R or anyone else can presently spend on the project. It probably won't happen, but a guy can dream....

Thanks! I'll head there just as soon as I am able. :)

Now... where's that login button at?

One problem: Since the redone casino was in Contrare's directory and Contrare did not give permission for his stuff to be in the new game there's no more casino gear.

I love your attitude. You just pick up conversations where they left off 4 years ago like it's nothing. xD
