I just found it odd that there doesn't seem to be any way to access the smiley menu from the posting page. The only place it seems to be accessible is at the chatbox. I don't know if this was intended, but it seems like you should be able to see it on the newthread/advancedreply page.

Go to user CP > edit options > under message interface select 'enhanced interface'

and you'll start seeing the smilies on the side whenever posting/replying (selecting standard editor should also work for this)


there is also a smiley button amongst the other editing buttons such as bold and underline buttons from which you can select your smilies from.
